Star2Star provides the world’s most reliable business grade phone solution. We designed and built the phone system and service together to provide a revolutionary set of calling features with unmatched quality and reliability.

It all starts with the StarBox, a super-reliable, solid-state, fanless on-premise PBX. The StarBox 2200 PBX supports up to 250 extensions; the Starbox Lite supports up to 10 extensions and is ideal for smaller offices. The Starbox Lite is functionally identical to the Starbox 2200, except for the number of supported users. Whether you are using a cable, DSL, T1, or Fiber Internet connection, these systems provide powerful and unique calling features, unlimited voice mail, extensive interactive voice menus, ring groups and call queues.

The StarBox connects over the Internet to our data center where we manage and monitor the quality of your phone system. We monitor the status of each StarBox, around the clock. Our continuous monitoring allows us to guarantee 99.99% reliability and to provide dramatic savings over traditional phone systems.

    Business Grade Internet Phone System
The StarBox offers hundreds of features, including many exclusive and upgraded capabilities. One of the most popular features is Star2Star’s advanced version of call forwarding called Find-Me/Follow-Me. With this feature, your office phone can ring at branch locations while simultaneously ringing your cell phone, home phone or even a laptop softphone.

You decide how your system works
The Star2Star web-based settings menu allows you to quickly build multi-layer automated attendant menus and to set up ring groups, customer service queues, paging, and music on hold. Extensions can be configured to allow or prohibit certain activities such as international calling or outbound calling. Users can set up their own speed dials, call forwarding, find-me/follow-me, voice mail options, and call blocking. The latest company directory is always just a click away as a printout. We can even have your greeting messges and voice prompts professionally recorded if you wish.

    Business-Class Quality and Reliability
Our phone system and service are designed for business and includes support for multiple locations, remote “home office” extensions, directory listing, and e911. The cost of our phone service is half of a typical business phone bill. Even after buying all new phone equipment, most customers spend less money from the very first month for the phone system and phone service than they have been paying the traditional phone company for the service alone. In most cases, you can even keep your old phone numbers.

    Be Cool, Be Green
The Starbox 2200 uses only 12 Watts of power; the Starbox Lite uses 6. Both units are silent, fanless designs with no hard drives or other moving parts.

    Coming Soon:
We are currently testing a larger, rack-mounted Starbox (code name: StarSIP Enterprise) for larger customer sites. The new model fits in a 1U rack space, so it requires cooling fans to ensure adequate air flow. The Enterprise model supports up to 500 extensions, and several units can be stacked in tandem for larger installations.

    StarBox Security

The StarBox has multiple levels of security, including packet filtering on all available interfaces. In addition to only allowing specific traffic to specific services, the StarBox only allows inbound traffic from Star2Star’s range of IP addresses.

If the packets are destined for the telephony network, we verify that they are in-fact telephony packets. Also, since the phones are not given a publicly reachable ip address (being behind our StarBox), they are protected. Without having a world-reachable ip address, they are protected from attacks originating off the customers network.

If the packets are destined for the data network, the StarBox allows the traffic to pass untouched to the customer defined DMZ host. The customer must configure a firewall or similar device to apply security measures to inbound data traffic.

If the customer has not defined a DMZ host in the StarBox configuration, the StarBox will simply drop any packets that are not of the voice classification or Star2Star administration classification.

All of the administration services running on a StarBox are encrypted. The connection between the StarBox and the Datacenter is encrypted and protected by 2048 bit public/private key exchange.

The StarBox software image is read only on disk and is cryptographically signed using SHA1. On every startup, this signature is verified before the image is booted. If the verification fails the bootloader can attempt to download a new image. If this also fails the StarBox will refuse to boot. In the event of any boot errors, there are multiple rescue options available from the bootloader.

The StarSystem VLAN architecture separates the voice and data networks, thereby providing another buffer between the “untrusted” internet link and the customers data network.
